Cornucopia Exchange (2014)

A one day event, where artist Sarah Spanton invited people via an online website to come to her studio and exchange her store of pre-loved objects for time. These were a series of objects she still valued but no longer had room for: an exciting assortment of miscellaneous items, some splendid moving image related equipment and a riot of stills camera related objects.

All objects were catalogued and described on the website:

12 artists chose objects to take away with them, and negotiated an appropriate amount of time they would exchange with Sarah in the future. She had very little left at the end of the day.

The event was held on Weds 29 Jan 2014 between 2pm and 7pm, at Studio 15, Patrick Studios, East Street Arts, St Mary’s Lane, Leeds, LS9 7EH.

Further Information:
The Cornucopia Exchange explored questions of abundance, memory, loss, value, wealth, time, gifting, being considered, the ‘throw away society’, human interaction, generosity, cataloguing, documentation and exchange.

This project was undertaken with help from members of Leeds Creative Timebank. It was drawn from ideas linked to the Timebank process, but unlike the Timebank it exchanges time for objects, rather than time for time. With particular thanks to Deborah Sanderson.
