Verse: Voices: Vistas (2011) the video is the result of a creative collaboration between artist Sarah Spanton and some people who live, work and play in Chapeltown, Leeds. To view go to:

Commissioned by East Street Arts for ‘Under the paving stones, the beach’ , it is the culmination of a journey of meeting people, making connections, talking and finding out how people feel about leisure, relaxation and play in Chapeltown.

The video presents an evocative audio-visual mapping of the emotions associated with leisure and ‘play’ activities and sites in Chapeltown, featuring Caution Collective.

Verse: Voices: Vistas was exhibited in Chapeltown at Miss Browns Coffee House June 20-23rd 2012 and was premiered as an installation on 23rd June 2011 at Leeds Media Centre, Savile Mt, Leeds.

As the artist on the project, Spanton had many roles – listener, researcher, collector, editor, maker… The direction of the installation and video work was led entirely by the conversations she had with just over 60 people living, working and playing in Chapeltown.

The installation event revealed the process of the journey – and asked the 55 people who came along to continue to contribute further to it – chatting over tea and cake, finding out about the project through the exhibition and folders of material about how the piece was made and by taking part in the leisure mapping activity.
